Don't Look Back

Here we are getting ready to enter into another new year; fresh with no mistakes in it. How well we know our past years have been full of mistakes and we will continue to make more. Some were of our own doing, and other happenings were a result of situations in our life that more than likely we had a hand in creating, or perhaps not. Maybe we chose the wrong path, the wrong person, not following the path that God intended for us to follow. But, God is so gracious to give us a fresh start and forgive us of all those bad choices and mistakes we have made, and even those who have brought harm to us, and will continue to do so.

I know for myself some of my past years were full of poor choices and mistakes I've made. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is out of the book of Jeremiah verse 29:11 which reads: " For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you" and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

In terms of "not looking back," again in Genesis 19:26 when Lot was fleeing Sodom, Lot's wife was told "Don't' look back", but in her disobedient hesitation she looked back and became a pillar of salt. This sounds like God was serious and how important that command was.

I was watching "The Never Ending Story Part I with the grandchildren yesterday, and it left me with some pretty big messages. The Nothingness that was destroying the Land of Fantasia caused hopelessness and no dreaming, That movie seemed only to connect somehow with what I wanted to write.

Let's continue to dream and have hope for our future that God has planned for us. I know that I at times tend to reflect on those ugly memories in my head, but I am finally learning to remember the most important thing of all, and that is God does have plans for me, for us, and hopes for a future. I can not change the past, and have no control over my future. Let's live for today in God's perfect plan and will for our life.

Happy New Year!
Jane

  1. Jane,Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my most favorite verses in the Bible and I use in a lot throughout the day to remind me that He does give us a future and a hope if we will depend totally upon Him to guide us. Happy New Year to you also! Let's all hope for a wonderul 2010!

  4. Jane, you're rolling right along w/ the blogging process! Interesting, isn't it, how movies can provide such strong lessons that apply to everyday life if we choose to truly listen. Keep up the good work!

  5. Hi Jane, just stopped by to check out your blog after you came to visit mine. In looking through your posts, I see such simple openness here about your road to renewal, accepting and admitting your mistakes, trusting in God to make you new. This new year, like all tomorrows, is indeed "fresh with no mistakes in it"...doesn't Miss Stacey say that to Anne in Anne of Green Gables!?! :-)

I am certainly glad a new year has come. I have a lot of mistakes to admit and repent over, but I am so thankful that He is here to love me and help me. I love the Scripture in Isaiah 43:18-19: "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

  6. Ruth,
I just posted a comment and it disappeared! So I'm doing one more time. First of all, thank you so much for not only taking the time to read my blog but to post your wonderful comment. That means so much to me. I am in no way a writer, just writing to be writing on the real issues of life, and I've had many. I haven't blogged in a few weeks....felt like I had nothing to say. But now I'm getting ready to write on the topic of "depression," which so many have a difficult time hearing about. I had a f.b. friend comment that he rarely got depressed, but if he started to feel down he just forced himself to smile and sing and pretty soon it's a good day. No harm was intended by him at all. My reply was, "good for you." I wish it were that simple for me and for people out there that have been diagnosed or not yet diagnosed with this mental disease. Soooo, thought I'd write about it. Hope to see you around, and again thanks so much. Jane
